Released in 2008, Epic Armageddon IPA helped define a new era of American-style IPA in New Zealand. Big, bitter, aromatic and unapologetically hoppy, it went on to become one of the most awarded beers in New Zealand.
Armageddon is loaded with US Cascade, Centennial, Simcoe and Columbus hops from Yakima, Washington, delivering huge citrus, grapefruit and resinous hop character. At 66 IBU there is plenty of bitterness, balanced by Pale Ale and Caramalt before finishing dry and demanding another sip.
And yes, it is 6.66% alc/vol. The number of the yeast.
Over the years Armageddon has won Best IPA trophies in New Zealand, Australia and Sweden. By 2016 it had collected a record five trophies at the New Zealand Beer Awards, and nearly two decades after its first release it was still winning, taking Gold at the New Zealand Beer Awards in 2026.
